Excuse me, but what defines "professional writer"? I always through a "professional writer" was one who got paid for their writing as opposed to publishing in fanzines (1970s-1990s) or free story sites (1990s-present). Apparently a new definition is being pushed out on us now, although it is very murky just what the proper definition of it is. Makes the people causing this fuss to come across as shills for the Big 6 Publishers who don't like anyone selling stories that they haven't personally vetted. Like they own publishing. This so-called "amateur writer" status is, to my mind, the most dangerous concept inherent in this whole debacle. The very democratization of being able to publish is at stake. That somehow You are an "amateur" and not worthy of publication or profits until We, whomever the "we" forces of Political Correctness are here, properly anoint you otherwise. That is the real battle of just who will be allowed to publish and profit and who will be shut out? Smashwords really opened up publishing to everyone who could format a manuscript. Now rather than simply letting the market decide, these people are firmly trying their best to close that door once again.

--DBSD.B. My own works for example, have suffered heavy censorship for their content - and I have been completely removed from Kobo, and most of my works there are of a 'Pagan' religious nature - not erotic or pornographic.

Food for thought friends!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02411347000661829562noreply@blogger.com
